Towns are places where the virtual population of the world lives. They vary in size from hamlets to sprawling metropolises. Towns are divided into zones. There are five kinds of zones and each has a different role in in town’s life cycle.
• Rural zone – the most outward and sprawling part of a town, being its suburb. This part of a town produces and consumes mail.
• Residential zone – central core of a town, composed of medium to high residential buildings. Its cargo needs are similar to that of rural zone.
• Industrial zone – a dense block of workshops and minor buildings which produce a general minor industrial cargoes that usually need to be transported to another town.
• Commercial zone – usually appearing in larger towns, near their center, this zone’s purpose is to be a sink to all the final products of industries.
• Business zone – highest tier zone which may appear only in largest towns. This zone is a source of high value, low volume goods as well as mail.
The picture above shows the zoning concept in action. This, in game's terms, is a huge city with a sprawling suburb ( green ) and residential ( teal ) zones, as well as well developed industrial area ( orange ) and commercial and business districts ( violet and blue, respectively ).
Towns grow when their transportation needs are met and rate of this growth is directly tied to efficiency of the transport into and out of them.
